CCM and KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital Organise Health Care Campaign - Shah Alam Residents Benefited from Free Medical Check-Ups
12 May 2009

Shah Alam –Members of Kelab Warga Emas (Senior Citizens Club) and residents of Shah Alam attended a medical workshop here today to obtain an update of their health standing and a better understanding of the role of exercise and nutrition for their wellness in their golden era.

The half-day event held at Kelab Warga Emas was co-organised by Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM) Pharmaceutical Division and KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital with the theme “Health Awareness Starts with You”. It is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and the need for regular medical check-ups in maintaining good health, especially among the elderly.

Participants kick-started the day with an aerobic workout and a battery of free health tests to check their blood pressure, body mass index, weight and height, and cholesterol and glucose levels. Free diet and breastfeeding counseling, manual breast examination demonstration as well as tips on how to massage a baby were also carried out at the event.

CCM also set up booths to promote its pharmaceutical and wellness range of products at special prices while educating the participants on the benefits of CCM’s health supplements. A session on heart diseases and menopause was helmed by Dr Noorfaizan Saaidin and Dr Anisah Jalaludin respectively, from KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital.

Speaking at the campaign launch, CCM Pharmaceuticals Division Director, Leonard Ariff bin Abdul Shatar said the campaign was aimed at educating the public, particularly senior citizens on having a nutritious diet while incorporating exercise into their daily lives to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Everyone should take responsibility for their own health and well being. This applies as much to the elderly as it does to the younger generation. Although the elderly make up the majority of today’s participants, it is great to see that they still have the energy and enthusiasm to partake in the physical activities and have a keen interest on how to take care of  their health.

“We are pleased to collaborate with KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital and Kelab Warga Emas in making this programme a success. We are happy to be able to contribute to the betterment of the community and hopefully we can work together again in other initiatives in the future,” said Leonard.

Overall, the participants enjoyed the programme highlights and took the opportunity to address their health concerns with the health experts involved in the campaign.

“I think today’s programme is a good effort by the organisers as it reaches out to the public and educates them on the importance of good health,” said 40 year-old Hamidah Saleh, who attended the event.

“As a middle-aged person, I find the health talk on menopause very insightful. I also feel that the demonstration on manual breast examination is a good way to teach the correct procedure on how to detect a lump,” said 54 year-old Loh Lai Kuen.

Shah Alam Deputy Mayor, Mohtar bin Hani was also present to officiate the campaign launch.

CCM, Malaysia's largest generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia and is a key player in the fertilisers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals industries.
