Kuala Lumpur – Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM) contributed RM100,000 worth of Halal pharmaceutical products to KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s network, Waqaf An-Nur clinics as part of the company’s commitment to enhance its corporate social responsibility program while advocating its Halal initiative.
The joint effort enables CCM to leverage on KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s network of Waqaf An-Nur Clinics as a platform to sponsor Halal ethical and over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products while providing medical services that are in line with Islamic principles. Speaking at the akad ceremony held at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital to solemnise the sponsorship, CCM Berhad Chairman, Tan Sri Ab. Rahman Omar said the CCM’s contribution complemented KPJ’s effort to offer affordable medical treatment to the less fortunate and those from the low-income group, while enhancing awareness and demand for Halal pharmaceutical products.
“The Halal concept has come a long way. It is no longer confined to only food and beverages. It has deepened and widened to encompass every aspect of Muslim life, from pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, clothing to investments and financial services.
“Muslims and non-Muslims alike are becoming more discerning and knowledgeable and want assurance that the medicines and health supplements that they consume are of the highest quality, cleanliness, safety, purity and nutritional standards. “CCM’s comprehensive range of pharmaceutical products are certified Halal and adhere to strict Islamic guidelines that emphasise quality, safety and hygiene in every aspect of the manufacturing process,” said Tan Sri Ab. Rahman.
Halal manufacturing also encompasses sourcing, preparation, processing, handling, cleaning, distribution, storage, display, servings, packaging, labeling, transportation and management practices.
Tan Sri Ab. Rahman added that CCM was committed to upholding its responsibility to advance its Halal initiative and ensuring that its pharmaceutical products were accessible to all patients regardless of their station in life, race or religion.
“We hope that our contribution to Waqaf An-Nur clinics will also assist health care professionals, especially doctors and pharmacists who may have difficulties in accommodating the patients’ needs for Halal medications.
“CCM is also proud to be the first generic pharmaceutical manufacturer in Malaysia to offer healthcare products that were certified Halal in 1999,” Tan Sri Ab. Rahman added.
Johor Corporation Berhad President and Chief Executive as well as Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Muhammad Ali Hashim also graced the solemnisation ceremony.
The ‘Klinik Waqaf An-Nur’ (KWAN) programme is KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s main corporate responsibility initiative to provide medical services to the less fortunate at a nominal fee. There are currently eight Waqaf An-Nur clinics located in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Sarawak. Each clinic is also equipped with a dialysis facility to treat patients with kidney problems.
CCM, Malaysia’s largest generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia and is a key player in the fertilizers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals industries.
